Sparkenhoe Red Leicester cheese is made by David and Jo on Sparkenhoe farm a stones throw away from Hinckley Leicestershire. Cheese making on Sparkenohe farm dates back to the 1800’s the Sparkenhoe Red Leicester is the only one of its kind in the entire country which is made using raw milk from their very own pedigree Holstein-Friesian cattle. Annato is added to give the cheese its popular orange colour Annato is a natural plant dye that comes from seeds of the achiote tree which are native to tropical regions in Mexico, Central America, South America and the Carribean. Naturally occuring blue veins can also be found in the cheese adding to its character. Amazingly creamy smooth texture type cheese which tastes phenomenal.
